Permitted uses under the Neighborhood Convenience Centers - (a) Specialty retail outlets for the sale of antiques, food, drugs, cosmetics, clothing, cards, gifts, toys, sundries and notions, books and stationary, leather goods, jewelry, cameras, small electronic equipment, flowers, fabric, arts and crafts and similar products. (b) Service establishments such as barber or beauty shops, shoe repair, watch and jewelry repair, interior decorators, photographic studios, picture framing shops, dance or music studios, self-service laundries, laundry or dry cleaning pickup stations, tailors and dressmakers, duplication and copying services and similar uses. (c) Child and adult day care centers. (d) Low-turnover restaurants, carryout restaurants, sandwich shops and snack bars, bakeshops (but not wholesale bakeries) and delicatessens. (e) Retail establishments manufacturing goods for sale only at retail on the premises, such activities being clearly incidental and subordinate to the permitted retail use. (f) Residential, one or more dwelling units located above the first floor.
Greater Lakeland is home to five hospitals and a multitude of other medical care facilities. Lakeland Regional Health, BayCare, and Advent Health are top employers, supporting approximately 12,850 total metro area jobs. Medline Industries LP recently opened a new medical supplies distribution center in the county, choosing the area because of its central location, proximity to a number of health care facilities, and to accommodate future growth. In addition, Lakeland is home to the third largest private company, Publix Super Markets, which has over 15,000 employees.
