History and architecture: In 1907, the Royal Bank of Canada moved its head office from Halifax to Montreal and decided to erect a skyscraper in 1926 to house its offices. The 22-story building was the tallest building in the British Empire at the time, expressing all of its opulence and prosperity. 
 
The building has three main divisions, namely the imposing base, the central part of the tower, and the pilasters at the top. The interior reflects the refinement of the classic Roman details of Italian Renaissance architecture. The main hall, a remarkable place where the bank once sat, has 45-foot ceilings and travertine floors that form a pleasant mosaic of hand-cut marble.
