Helpful Storage Tips
When Storage Isn't Necessary
Make sure you get your storage company's hours of operation, as well as an agreement stating when you will have access to your unit. Most storage companies provide 24-hour access, but this is a detail that simply cannot be overlooked.
You'll be given a key or access card that will get you into the storage facility, usually guarded by gate and surveillance. Make sure you keep this someplace safe.
Give as much detail as possible when describing what items you need to be stored to the storage company. Different items require different storage, so this will help them decide what will be best for you, providing an accurate estimate to match your needs.
If storing records from the workplace, check to see if your company has a record storage retention policy - there may only be a certain amount of time that these records need to be stored for, saving you space and money.
Be realistic when preparing your items for storage. You should ask yourself if you really want to hold on to what your going to store, or maybe it's time you let that item go. Every item you put into storage is going to require your time (transporting it there) and money (space), so think carefully before committing your items to storage. This should apply to everything: from older clothing to items you used to enjoy, or perhaps ones that held some sort of sentimental value to you.
