Helpful Storage Tips
  • Wrap delicate items in bubble wrap and place them in drawers.
  • Always fill boxes completely to prevent possible damage to your belongings
  •  Use newspaper to fill in the empty spots to prevent collapsing when packing smaller materials.
  • Never store anything combustible (chemicals, gas, paint).
  • Never store anything perishable (food that does not have a permanent seal).
  • Drain all fluids when storing lawn and garden equipment this will help to prevent any possible corrosive damage.
  • Lawn items such as rakes and shovels should be stored together, usually in a large container such as a trash can.
  • Purchase high-quality locks for your storage unit - it's worth it. Spend a little more here to protect your belongings. These can generally be purchased at the facility that you will be using for storage.
  • Use pallets or boards to store your furniture on top of. This will help for moving purposes.
  • Mattresses and box springs should be covered and stored on a flat surface for preservation.
  • To save space, store smaller items such as pots and pans in larger appliances that you would find in the kitchen, such as a stove or refrigerator.
  • Desks, tables, and other items with legs should be disassembled
  • Large furniture (sofas, recliners) can be stored on end to preserve space. - Treat wood surfaces prior to storing, especially if it is going to be for an extended period of time. - Protective covers should be used on any applicable material that you would not want to leave exposed.
  • Label all boxes and files clearly - this will save you valuable time if you need to retrieve them from storage.
  • Try to leave aisles of space within your storage unit  - it's always best to have. easy access to your belongings, and if possible you don't want to step on one item to get to another.
