Additional Services: packing, unpacking, a ride to the new destination. These services will usually carry additional charges to the move itself.
Advanced Charges: charges for services that were not directly performed by the mover, but rather by a third party hired by the mover. These services will usually be paid for by the mover, then added to your bill.
Bill of Lading: the receipt for your materials and the agreement for their transportation. ---This is an extremely important document, make sure you fully understand everything before signing---
Binding / Non-Binding Estimate: a biding estimate is an agreement with the mover created prior to the move that guarantees the total cost of the move based on the quantities and services shown in the estimate. A non-binding estimate is simply an approximation of services to be performed, usually based on the weight of the shipment and any additional services that have been requested. Final charges here will be based on the actual weight.
Guaranteed Pickup and Delivery: a service where the dates and times of the agreement are guaranteed. Here the mover is liable for providing compensation if all terms are not met.
High Value Item: anything included in the shipment of exceptional value. These materials should be shown to movers so that they make take note when shipping / transporting.
Inventory: detailed list of all belongings that are to be transported by your moving company. The quantity / condition of these belongings should be noted.
Transportation Charges: how much you'll be charged for the actual distance that your movers will be going - usually they apply to both traveling to the move as well as the transportation of your materials. These are generally additional service charges.
Order for Service: this document authorizes the mover to transport your belongings.
Shuttle Service: use of another (usually smaller) vehicle to provide transportation outside of your movers truck / van.
Storage-In-Transit: temporary warehouse storage of your shipment that will eventually require further transportation. This will usually be an additional charge.
Valuation: the value of your shipment. You will be assessed this charge so that the mover is protected against any possible claim of a damaged shipment being worth more than it actually was.
