HOPE FOR THE WARRIORS™
Wednesday, November 04, 2009 -  Long Island, NY, November 4, 2009 – Fifteen wounded service members from across the nation will participate in the 2nd Annual Run for the Warriors™ to be held in the Town of Babylon on Sunday, November 8. Hope for the Warriors™, a national non-profit organization that assists wounded service members and their families and families of the fallen, will sponsor the run as part of special New York Veterans Day activities.

The event will begin with an opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. to honor those injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. Congressman Steve Israel and Town Supervisor Steve Bellone will make opening remarks to the crowd. Other local government officials will be on hand to show their support. A Marine Color Guard will present colors and bagpipers will perform, leading the way to the start line. Participants will also enjoy music from Road House Band before and during the run. T-shirts designed by West Babylon teen Samantha Kross will be given to all race registrants.

The race is open to all community members. “We invite everyone to come out and show their support,” states Race Director Jack Caffey, Jr. “This day will be a wonderful tribute to our service members and a great way for us to give back to those who have given so much.”

This 2nd Annual Run For The Warriors™ is sponsored by the Local 338 RWDSU/UFCW, and includes a 10K, 5k and 1-mile run/walk as well as The First Responders Challenge and Team Challenge. All fire, police, and other first responders are invited to compete. Prizes will be given to the team that raises the most donations and to the team that recruits the highest number of participants. A $5 race registration discount will be given to those who are participating as a team.

All proceeds from the event will benefit injured service members and their families through various Hope For The Warriors™ programs.
